The China Banking Association recently released the results of the GYROSCOPE Evaluation System on the steady development capability of commercial banks in 2023. ICBC scored 91.12 in the overall evaluation of national commercial banks (including 18 large state-owned commercial banks and joint-stock commercial banks), becoming the first bank to top the overall evaluation list for the third consecutive year since the launch of the list.
The results of the GYROSCOPE Evaluation System include “1+9” lists, namely, one main list and nine sub-lists, of which the main list is based on overall evaluation and the nine sub-lists represent the nine dimensions of governance, yield sustainability, risk control, operation management, service quality, competitiveness, organizational intellectualization, personnel competence, and equity funding. In 2023, in addition to the overall evaluation list among national commercial banks, ICBC also topped four sub-lists, namely, “operation management”, “service quality”, “organizational intellectualization”, and “equity funding”, of which ICBC topped the “operation management” and “equity funding” sub-lists for the third consecutive year.
The number of commercial banks with effective participation in the GYROSCOPE Evaluation System in 2023 increased to 181 from 61 in 2015. They included 18 national commercial banks (including large state-owned commercial banks and joint-stock commercial banks), 71 city commercial banks, and 92 rural commercial banks. Their assets accounted for 90.33% of the total assets of commercial banks, indicating that the representativeness of the commercial banks participating in the GYROSCOPE Evaluation System has been further enhanced and the GYROSCOPE Evaluation System has gained more influence in the industry.
